Types of Galaxies

Spiral Galaxies

These galaxies have a flat, rotating disk with arms that spiral outward. Our Milky Way is a spiral galaxy.

Elliptical Galaxies

Elliptical galaxies are round or oval and have little gas or dust, which means they contain older stars.

Irregular Galaxies

Galaxies that lack a distinct shape. They often appear chaotic and are rich in gas and dust.

Lenticular Galaxies

Lenticular galaxies are a blend of elliptical and spiral galaxies, with a central bulge and a flat disk but no arms.
